Go Slow to Get Fast
We want to be as efficient and productive as possible, especially when running a company. This is what I aim for as I run my own company. Compared to being a salaried worker, a company owner has many things to worry about. While it’s key to focus on our work, it is equally important to focus on our physical and mental health. To be responsible to my team and customers, I need to be accountable to myself first.
We don’t focus only on running far and fast when training for a marathon. Part of the training is running slow and far, which teaches our body to burn fats more efficiently. Also, to enable us to get used to running for a prolonged duration. Once we achieve this efficiency, we can have endurance and better prepare our bodies to perform better in a marathon. Using a similar analogy, we can slow down our pace before speeding up to put in more for our business.
Is this an excuse to “cheat” or “slack” in doing our best for the job? Maybe, but who’s the best to judge this besides ourselves?
The fact is that I feel the drag in doing my work recently and the urge to rest, read, and watch Netflix and Disney+. Yes, there are many things that I need to work on to prepare the marketing activities and to push for more take up rate for UnitySuite, which is our Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offering. However, it is essential to take a break and recharge before picking up the pace. Furthermore, we are facing a critical milestone on 3 January 2022, which might make or break the company. So I need to prepare myself for anything that might come.
After that critical milestone, there are a few other items that I need to work on concurrently. First and foremost is to increase the sale of our SaaS offering, as this is the key focus area for the company. I will need to continue running other phases of different projects, seek out more customers, and embark on the journey to facilitate the certification for Project Management Professional (PMP), among others.
So, I guess I can excuse myself to relax for the next few days and overdrive my engine after cruising this part of my journey. So, give yourself a break and enjoy the scene that’s part of the journey that we are embarking on.
