Updating the wardrobe is a Challenging Task for me.
For those of you who have known me long enough, you might have already seen my entire wardrobe of clothes. I am someone who can be wearing the same clothes for years if it’s still in good condition. Therefore, I can resist the urge in buying new clothes, even when it’s on sale. I do not see that this is something that I need to spend much time and effort on besides having something appropriate and suitable for the event.
Thus, one of the most challenging things that I need to embark on is to buy clothes. As I keep wearing a particular style, it is difficult for me to get anything new. Furthermore, I am those who will shop for clothes only when there’s a need for me to do it. I don’t even buy clothes yearly for Lunar New Year. I am fine by wearing something presentable.
A Typical Day
So, what am I wearing on a typical working day? Typically, you will see me in Polo T-Shirt with Jeans and a Timberland walking shoe. This has been the most common thing I have been wearing over the past decade. The last time that I spent around SGD200 to buy 4–5 Polo-T was probably around four years ago. However, if I need to be in something more formal, I still have my jacket and suit with me. As for the suit, that’s something that I bought back in 2007, can you believe it?
As there’s a need for me to attend some event that needs me to wear something more formal, I need to relook into what I have in my wardrobe. Personally, the most critical aspect of clothing is presentable and comfortable. It need not be a designer’s long sleeve with a tie or a tailor-made suit. It can be something as simple as a Polo-T with Jeans. However, in modern society, we are judged on what we are wearing or what car we are driving.
Embark on the Task
Back to the challenging task. My wife recommended I look at something more expensive if it’s more fitting and better quality. So I walked into a boutique selling shirts, a modern layout with helpful and professional staff. The price range for a shirt starts from SGD99.00 to SGD198.00, and one can opt for alteration with a fee. Okay, I expected this range, but I am not comfortable spending this amount of money now when I have other priorities to manage.
Next, I happened to walk into Uniqlo and saw that they have something interesting suitable for my need and it’s not that expensive. It’s a Polo-T that looks like a short-sleeve shirt, which is both presentable and comfortable, selling for 1/3 the price of the boutique shop. Then at the next aisle, they have long-sleeve that’s easy to manage. This is not my usual place to get my clothing, but I have decided to give this a try and buy something from them.
Seeing a “new” me
If you meet me next time, you might find that I am wearing something new, something different. Also, I have completed a challenge by heading to the shop and grabbing a few new clothes to refresh my wardrobe.
